Muzik Muzik Muzik

"Don't aim for success if you want it;
just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally."
- David Frost

The past two weeks have been quite a fulfilling journey, for me at least.. I have gone through the best moments and the worst. And honestly, despite being so washed off and so lethargic for days, my overused body was filled with spirit... all 14 days.

"You're young..." That's always the remark i get... Yes, 3years ago when i started.. But now? I'm 25... If anything else, i should have some sense of desperation..

I'm 25. I'm getting old. I need to be somewhere.

Or at least, that's how i feel.. Huhuhu.. i'm feeling old.. I get tired easily, i'm more serious on things... i avoid having flings though my heart wants too, it's hormonal i presume... i eat durian more than i used to... i'm beginning to appreciate hot and spicy KFC... i shop for curtains!.. what else? hahahah.. signs of old age..

Oh well... whatever that is..

I was looking forward to this year's Muzik-muzik semifinals.. Honestly, normally i couldn't be bothered with these stuffs.. But since i've put my serious heart into this business (see.. i warned u.. i'm getting old...), i HAVE to make some effort into getting some studying, practicing and networking done...

So the story of my 14 day agenda begins...

It all started off way back when Syuib, my husband asked for some advice on certain things regarding the promotion of the song Cinta Terhalang.. From then onwards, we have been working hand-in-hand towards achieving our individual goals.. And when Cinta Terhalang was listed for the AJL semis.. it was time to learn...

On the side, Heliza and Mawi made the cut too.. Not only to the semis.. but straight off to the finals.. I agree that the Etnik Kreatif category has lost it's magic since Siti stopped making Nirmala-ish type of songs and Noraniza Idris retired.. And the standard of the competition within this particular category itself has somewhat been lowered over the past few years... Partly because most the songs sound more POP-ish than it should.. gone are the days when Pak Ngah made music.

So YES, i agree that Doa Dalam Lagu is a song that is fortunate to be at the right place, at the right time.. With its popularity, its well done performance and its 'less-pop-more-ethnic' music, it is expected that the song goes to the finals.. So Congratulations to Heliza, Mawi, Ajai... and of course to be remembered, the late Loloq .. Al Fatihah.

Heliza is one of a kind.. Behind the flawless skin, the beautiful eyes, the elegance of a young woman glowing into adulthood lies a regular person with so much desires and flaws that comes within..

Heliza arrived in KL at midnight on Monday, about 5 days before the big night.. As soon as she arrived, all she had in mind was the AJL semifinals.. For the next few days, her life revolves around the preparation towards giving her best shot. She was excited, happy, worried, angry, sad for just 1 cause -- AJL Semi Final.

On Monday, less than 24 hours in KL, she settled every bit of errands there is for her to get over and done with prior to the competition... Well.. not all that important for me to blog but just incase you're wondering.. getting ready for an artiste involves things like eye cream and another maroon hijjab because the old maroon hijjab has been used one too many times..Hahaha.. things we normal people don't need to care about.. Now, please feel lucky u're invisible!

*shopping for the right scarf.

That night i had a meeting with Syuib and Ruher regarding some work.. As arranged, we met up at about 8pm.. Heliza tagged along.. Bob was there.. So, for the full 3 hours of my business discussion with Syuib and Ruher, Heliza went through a vocal bootcamp with Bob... While we enjoyed the ambiance of the coffee house that night, sipping our hot drinks while pouring some fresh ideas, Heliza rehearsed with Bob in a small confined studio called - THE CAR... Hahahah.. It was all technical vocal coaching.. Just what she needs at that point... A help in refining her style.. Heliza is not a vocal acrobat.. A range too wide, or a note too high may not be best.. But she knows how to sing..

At the end of the day, when she sang to me her lines... her tune was more refined.

For the next 3 days to come, her days were filled with rehearsals and vocal warm up.. Many mishaps took place over the 3 days but i think that's not our concern now la kan.. hahhaha.. All i can say, Heliza has done a good job just keeping herself focused.

So the big day came.

Less than an hour before leaving the house, Heliza found a new style for the song intro bit.. So the trip to Shah Alam was filled with nothing but just the intro of the DDL song, rehearsed over and over and over.. and over.. and over again.

She arrived the venue at 5pm sharp... hahah.. thanks to NPE.. She mingled around for a bit before heading to the make-up room..

Bottom eyelashes that Marsha got her from Jakarta...

2 hours before call time.. Heliza gave her last shot rehearsing... There were people around.. Cheryl Samad was doing her hair.. but sometimes at times like this, it's best to be embarrased than sorry... hahaha.. well, i mean it in a good way.. i mean she has to push her shyness away and do what is best.. If she's not confident yet, especially with her new found ad-libs, she needs to work it out before the real thing.. And for a newbie, it's okay to be a little bit ambitious... ;)

* 1hr and half to go..

*Minutes before going on stage...

Time came... She gave her best shot.. Honestly, it was the best ever.. It was a duet, but she stood out.. She worked hard for it... And for that she deserves to be in the final...

And also for that..
A standing ovasion.

If u're a fan of Heliza.. you should be proud.. In away, this is a sign of her appreciation to all the support that has been given.. :)

Last week was Bob's turn to fight in the Balada category.. Sad to say we didn't make it.. We were frustrated.. But it's okay... It was a tough competition anyway.. This is just the beginning.. We are all still learning.. Learning.. learning.. and learning.. But a big round of applause to Bob for an outstanding performance..

Suddenly I dun think i'm ready to talk more about it yet.. let's wait till the whole AJL Semi Final thing is over.. but here are some pictures to share..

We had our postmortem at Pelita Bangsar then adjourn to THE CRIB for some emotional session.. hahahaha.. kidding!

Makan n makan lagi while expressing feelings like.. "Patah pun aku masih beradat dan beretika!"..

The losing celebration.. hahahahha... Kek Lapis Sarawak...

This week Pedd and the cats will be doing their bit for Pop Rock..
Good Luck Luv.

and also Good Luck Mila & Stacy.. *blush* *wink* *blush*

Oh.. there's so much to learn!
